Gira Festival takes place every September for four days in Berlin. We bring together activists and artists to celebrate through workshops, movie screenings, debates and other cultural activities the resistance movements in Brazil.
We created the Gira Festival in 2018 in view of the growing threat to social movements in Brazil and the approaching elections. With the seizure of power by the extreme right, it became even more urgent to join forces in order to make visible the resistances, highlighting plural narratives, artistic creation, and democratic political debate.
In 2019 we continued to build bridges against racism, patriarchy, homo and transphobia, the concentration of land and wealth, the privatization of common goods and colonial capitalism, hosted in the rooms of New Yorck Bethanien.
